Cyd Edge-Gerrol, Counselor

She/They

The world is dark. The ground is wet. The dim light of the moon reflects strangely upon the plants covering the ground, making it appear as if surrounded by snakes. Taking in a deep breath of the humid jungle air, Cyd Edge shakes off her nerves and continues to search desperately for what she came for: The Golden Gorilla.

The search started after the theft of the Golden Gorilla at one of Camp Downer’s grand balls held in the Hall of Recreation. Although many days have since passed and the culprit had been caught the very same evening, Cyd began having strange dreams this past fall of the gorilla calling out to her from the depths of the wilderness. After a month of these premonitions, tragedy struck. A cryptic letter with a hidden message appeared at Cyd’s door. Thankfully, with the help of her genius friend Lily Baumeister, they discovered the true meaning of the letter and its contents. The Golden Gorilla had once again been stolen and was taken overseas. More shockingly however was the man behind the crime; Samuel MacIntyre Watson, a fellow counselor and good friend to Cyd, Lily, and all.

Now, after being on the road and the tail of the Gorilla and Sam for 3 months, Cyd can say without a doubt she has grown indefinitely from the ups and downs of her journey. She has seen volcanos, jungles, mountains, and oceans beyond imagination. Right now, she is trekking through jungles in Colombia in search of Sam and the Gorilla. Cyd believes she has their final location, and is extremely excited to return to Camp Downer with the Golden Gorilla in hand.

Cyd’s favorite program at Camp is Downer Wild, a time in which those adventurous enough to brave the unknown can discover the incredible things just beyond their fingertips. Dance is also a great program. Cyd’s favorite time at camp is 5:30 pm and the gorilla’s favorite is 8:50 pm. But of course, the best time of all at camp is Village Cookout.

Cyd and the Golden Gorilla are counting down the days until they can return home and once again breath the air of the Downer trees.
