  • The administrative assistant plays a supporting role to the daily business operations of camp. Handling purchasing, receipts, banking transactions, and documentation is critical to the financial management of camp. A professional demeanor when representing camp and communicating via phone or in person with vendors, families, and visitors is key to maintaining positive public relations. This role also partners with the director to manage Camp Downer’s social media presence and website when camp is in session. Updating the Camp Downer website, taking and posting photos on the photo-sharing platform for family viewing, and maintaining camp’s social media platforms are largely important to maintain Camp Downer’s online presence. Lastly, the importance of the camp office as the hub of accurate and timely internal communication in the form of messages and announcements is vital to the daily routine. This position supports Camp Downer’s mission to provide a positive and affordable camping experience for youth in a safe, constructive, and welcoming environment.

  • The maintenance staff is for maintaining a safe, clean, and well-functioning environment for all camp operations. This position adheres to a regular schedule of assigned tasks as well as responds to urgent requests and assists with special projects. Positive interactions with both the staff and camper population is expected.   • The sports program head supervises, supports, and oversees Camp Downer’s athletic sports and shooting sports programs available for campers, the staff responsible for leading the programs, and the supplies and equipment necessary for successful program operation. Due to the level of responsibility, the sports program head must remain both a leader and a role model in all camper and staff interactions.   • The Village Leader serves as the primary leader for an assigned village of campers and staff at Camp Downer. While sharing many responsibilities with counselors–residing in and managing an assigned cabin with campers, planning and facilitating daily programs and activities, and providing supervision during Daywatch and Nightwatch–the Village Leader also oversees and supports the counselors within their village, providing guidance and mentorship to foster a positive, safe, and inclusive environment. They address routine issues and questions at the village level, working collaboratively with counselors to resolve challenges and maintain smooth operations. Given the high level of responsibility, the Village Leader must consistently demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and serve as a role model in all interactions with campers and staff.   • The Counselor is key to the day-to-day activities of the summer camp experience for the entire camper population. In addition to orchestrating programs and activities throughout the day and each evening, the Counselor resides with the campers within their assigned cabin.   • The Bridge Counselor position serves as a stepping stone toward becoming a full counselor, providing staff with valuable experience across various aspects of camp operations. The Bridge Counselor will assist in facilitating camp programs, supporting Village Time, performing duties such as Daywatch and Nightwatch and serving on EAC, while also supporting essential camp functions, including dining service and providing support to program heads, healthcare staff, and maintenance staff. The Bridge Counselor will work closely with counselors, village leaders, program heads, healthcare staff, and maintenance staff to ensure camp activities and operations run smoothly. This role provides an opportunity for first-year staff members to gain diverse experience and contribute meaningfully to camp's daily operations, preparing them for future leadership roles.
